Our History

Light Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE)

The history of Light Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE) dates back to 2004 when its current directors were students in the University. The vision of serving marginalized communities and less fortunate people in the community was first revealed to one of them, who in return, shared the same with the other. However, it was until recently - in 2018, when its program activities were intensified, and a robust working and funding framework became necessary. The envisaged framework for the envisioned benevolent activities led to an establishment of Light Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE) as a non-profit entity; and was officially registered in October 2023 to address, among other things, the socio-economic injustices and inequalities in our society. Our undertaking is to promote the plight of vulnerable groups through conscious action and charitable works of empowerment, conservation, advocacy and general promotion of the integrity of all humanity. LIFE serves orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), youth, other key populations and with more emphasis on the boy child by improving their quality of life through education support, water, health and sanitation services, and promotion of life-skills development and mentorship programs in Kenya.
